Site: The site was 4.5 acres of gently sloping land over looking Kailua-Kona with an ocean view.

Client's Vision: The school board had a strong desire to develop a school with a sense of place and community. They wanted an outdoor feel to the school to take advantage of the sunny and mild Hawaiian climate.

Resulting Design: Buildings and classrooms were arranged along a courtyard-type street. The street became the main circulation space, tying the buildings and various functions together. It was anchored on one end with the entry arrival and administration building and at the other end with a 200-seat performing arts theater and dedicated classrooms. A small amphitheater was associated with the performing arts theater with easy flow and access between them. The amphitheater, along with the performing arts theater, would be available for various community activities and public rentals.

Site amenities included a morning gathering place, playfield, outdoor dining area, and an amphitheater associated to be used as outdoor classroom for performing arts.

Project size was approximately 25,000 SF of enclosed space using pre-engineered building systems.
